Virtual address

In computer technology, a virtual address is an address identifying a virtual, i.e. non-physical, entity.

Description

The term virtual address is most commonly used for an address pointing to virtual memory or, in networking, when referring to a virtual network address. Virtual memory may be simulated by a hard disk, allowing an application to operate as though the computer has more physical memory than actually installed.

Address generated by the CPU is called the Logical address (virtual address) and it is mapped to the virtual address space. Generally Virtual address space is more when compared to the Main Memory address space.
